The Opportunity

The Design Manager plays a pivotal role in translating vision into reality—leading the coordination and delivery of all design activities on a project from early planning through to construction. Acting as the key link between consultants, authorities and the project delivery team, the role ensures designs are buildable, compliant, commercially sound and aligned to programme outcomes. With a strong balance of technical expertise, stakeholder management and commercial awareness, the Design Manager drives quality, mitigates risk, supports innovation and ensures the design supports safe, efficient construction while meeting client expectations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the project design process to deliver compliant, buildable, cost‑effective design solutions aligned to the contract programme and budget.
  • Coordinate and manage architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors and internal stakeholders to achieve design approvals, sign‑off and quality outcomes.
  • Develop, manage and monitor the design programme, ensuring alignment with procurement and construction timelines and identifying risks, opportunities and constraints early.
  • Review all design documentation for time, cost, quality, safety and statutory compliance, including NCC, authority requirements and Safety in Design obligations.
  • Support and collaborate with the broader project delivery team, providing design leadership, value management input, and mentoring cadets and graduates.

What we are looking for

  • Proven experience managing design delivery on complex construction projects, including coordination of architects, engineers and specialist consultants.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodology, buildability and value management to ensure design outcomes support efficient and safe delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience managing design programmes, approvals and documentation to meet contractual, budget and programme requirements.
  • Solid knowledge of statutory, regulatory and authority requirements, including NCC compliance, Safety in Design and authority approvals.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a project delivery team, providing design leadership, stakeholder management and mentoring junior team members
