The Opportunity

As a Senior Design Manager – Risk, you’ll play a key role in strengthening how we identify and manage design risk across the business. Sitting within our Project Risk function, this role focuses on providing independent, expert insight — helping teams make better decisions at critical stages of the project lifecycle.

You’ll work across tenders, ECI and live projects, partnering with Design Managers, Project Managers and specialist consultants to provide clear guidance and challenge thinking where it matters most.

In this role, you will:

• Review design documentation to identify risks early
• Provide practical, experience-led recommendations to improve outcomes
• Support teams in developing risk mitigation strategies across the project lifecycle
• Partner with internal teams and external consultants to strengthen design approaches
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design management processes

This role is not embedded in project delivery — instead, you’ll operate as a trusted advisor, helping teams think differently about risk and design.

What We Are Looking For

You’re a senior design professional who has seen projects from multiple angles — including when things haven’t gone to plan. You bring a practical understanding of design risk, paired with the ability to influence and guide others.

You’ll likely bring:

• Significant experience in design management within commercial construction across multiple building typologies
• A background in architecture, engineering, or similar, with strong technical grounding
• A deep understanding of NCC, building codes and other legislative requirements
• A broad, holistic view of projects — beyond a single discipline
• The ability to influence and challenge constructively, even in complex or sensitive situations
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative and diplomatic approach

This role suits someone who enjoys digging into detail, asking the right questions, and helping teams deliver better outcomes.
